From the Dolomites to Stelvio

In the beginning of July, I went on a little road trip through northern Italy and Austria with my family. We started in Slovenia and drove through Austria to Lago Misurina (I talked about it last year as well). Next day we went on a nice hike to Monte Piana, where are an open air museum of First world war and breathtaking view on the magical Dolomites.

Then we drove through many roads in Trentino to a small town in Lombardy where we slept. Our next destination was Livigno- famous winter destination. The town has an interesting background story-Livigno enjoys a special tax status as a duty-free area. The justification for such a status is the difficulty in reaching Livigno during winter, and the centuries-long history of poverty in the region. There we did a nice stroll around the town, we visited a lake on Swiss border and I also went on a nice morning run.

Next morning we started our way to the famous Stelvio pass-highest paved mountain pass in Eastern Alps. The pass is very crowded with motorbikers and other tourists. There is also a lift to Stelvio Glacier and I got the chance to ski in July (amazing experience).

We continued our way to Innsbruck. On the way, we stopped in hidden valley-Solda with a Messner mountain museum. We drove through beautiful South Tyrol and spend the next day in Innsbruck.
